The Canteen

Last summer we visited Provincetown, MA. We took the morning ferry from Boston and spent the day in this cute little town. Art, unique shops and touristy places all gathered on one long street, alongside a very beautiful beach (rumour has it there are even better beaches nearby – we didn’t have enough time to check these out unfortunately).

As animal lovers, we had come across something on Google called the Bark Park which we obviously had to explore. What a let down. First of all it was impossible to find. Secondly, it was, literally, just a park for people to walk their dogs in. I’m not sure what I had expected (a field with hundreds of dogs running loose, maybe? Can’t a girl dream?) but anyway, unless you have a dog, don’t go there.

For food, we stopped by The Canteen. It was a beautiful day to sit outside!

I believe that is sangria in my glass. My memory has faded slightly.

We ordered crispy brussel sprouts in fish sauce for our starter/side. 10/10, would definitely recommend!

I had the cod banh-mi which was good. I’m not sure it would go down to history as one of the best banh-mis I’ve had, but it certainly did the trick.

My bf ordered the shrimp sliders, which were average at best. Nothing about these stood out. Avoid.

All in all, a good place to rest your legs if you’ve spent a hot afternoon walking up and down the streets of Provincetown. The outside back borders the beach and there is a ping pong table available for those of you with an athletic talent, something I was born without.

A tribute to Cher

I spent my Friday night in watching Clueless on Netflix. It’s been over 20 years since it came out (jeez, does that make you feel old or what?) but all I want to right now is to dress exactly like rich kids did in Beverly Hills 1995. Here’s my tribute to Cher and her bomb outfits.

My absolute favorite of all looks – this perfectly layered outfit with this amazing sheer ruffled shirt and silver backpack with matching silver shoes

I also love everything about this look – the velvet dress in the perfect pinkish red, the hair, the makeup (!)

And lastly, I also love Tai’s look here, very 90’s, very cute

It’s funny how now, looking back, the 90’s fashion seems so desirable. Living through it wasn’t. I honestly only remember wearing hideous clothes (I was neither rich nor living in Beverly Hills, though). My favorite piece of clothing was a Winnie the Pooh hoodie from Disney Store. Would Cher wear that? Probably not.

Favorite things thrifted, pt 1

Thrift store hunting is one of my favorite things to do (it may even be closer to an obsession). I’ve bought many things over the years – some things good, some things horrible. I love it because it makes it possible to find unique items that no one else will have, but it’s also a concious choice. And cheap!!! Did I mention cheap? If you are willing to give it some time, there are some real good deals in it for you.

Anyway, I’ve listed some of my favorite finds below for inspiration for those of you who are slightly reluctant to buying old and used items.

There are several reasons to why you should consider buying used jeans. First of all, it’s a pretty sweet choice if you care for the health of our earth (and why shouldn’t you?). The production of denim has a huge impact on the environment, mainly, but not limited to, due to the large amount of water used in the process. All boring details aside – buying vintage jeans is both fun and cheap!

These vintage 501’s are probably the best thing I’ve ever found in a thrift shop. They were $5 (!!!) and they fit peeeerfect. If you are looking for vintage 501’s you should be aware of the difference in sizing from today’s measurements. I am usually a size 24-25 due to my petite nature, and these are a 28. People must’ve been really tiny back in the days.

(By the way, the rug in the background is also thrifted)

Let’s face it, most accessories were more fun back in the days, including the ones for your hair. Here we have several eras of hair accessories in one picture. The top one is my latest find actually – I got it for 25 cents at my local thrift shop. The middle one is my favorite by far. I feel so fancy wearing it! The bottom one is a made of leopard velvet, which must be the best combination of things ever.

Although I’m not big on purses, I just couldn’t say no to this beauty. I found it at Goodwill for $5. It had the tags left and everything! It’s made of beautiful green suede which looks great with that classic golden chain. I don’t wear it on a daily basis, but it makes my outfit look a million times better when I do.

Red’s Eats

I’ve had this post saved in draft forever, because I just don’t know how to express my feelings towards this place. Let’s just make a long story short – if you’re in Maine and want to eat the best lobster roll in the world, you HAVE to stop by this place.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The exterior is nothing but a simple road shack. Don’t let this fool you, and whatever you do, don’t let the line stop you. I don’t care how long it is!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Almost cried looking at this picture since it reminded me of how damn good this lobster was. And yes, that is melted butter in a cup *crying emoji*

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Literally can’t express my feelings knowing that I may never be able to visit this place again in my life. Why is life so unfaaaaair?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Just do me a favor and go there, have the lobster roll and die happy knowing that you’ve made the best decision of your life.

PS: That’s a crab roll next to it, which was also good, but have the lobster roll!!!! Please. Just please.

Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park

On our last night in Boston we had tickets to the Red Sox – Rangers game at Fenway Park. Our hotel was located just behind the baseball park so it was a perfect last outing. And what a beautiful night it was!

Pictures can’t do justice to how beautiful this ballpark is!

We had great luck with the weather as well on this perfectly warm summer night

Obviously a happy bunch

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We left about two hours in and after checking the final score, we didn’t really miss that much

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We saw Wally the Green Monster on our way out!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Such a great night, such a great area. I’m not at all a big baseball fan (or sports fan, period) but if I had to choose one sport, it would be baseball for sure. It’s great because it’s fairly slow, which means there is a lot of time for people watching, drinking beer, eating hot dogs and enjoying a nice summer night outside, whilst still being able to keep up with what’s happening down on the field.

Crayfish kind of night

Friday night in August means crayfish time! This is the best time of the year to eat crayfish in Sweden, so we figured why not? After work, we picked up these suckers from a local market.

Here accompanied with a simple salad, some very white bread, aioli and riseling from Alsace.

I wonder what spot is best for begging, this…

…or this?

She ended up getting none, but was happy anyway. And so were we! Simple dinner with close to  zero preparation, yet filling and tasty. Five thumbs up.
